NewsDesk FAQ

IMDb and IMDbPro surface news articles relating to a person, title, or company from news feeds that are provided to IMDb by third party providers such as Variety, Deadline, and more. 

The articles we display are only short teasers (usually one or two paragraphs), and will include a link to the full article on the external website. The content of the articles is solely the province of the third party.

Names, titles, and companies mentioned in the short teaser we receive are automatically linked to the corresponding IMDb page based on certain logic.

Occasionally, the wrong page might be linked to the article (usually where it shares the same name) and needs correcting.

You can reach out to our customer support team to correct or remove these links.

Additionally, we can only link news articles to a page where the name is referenced in the short article we've received. This means, if an article mentions a person's name, but the short teaser we have on IMDb does not - then we're unable to link these together.

If the link to a third party news article no longer works, you can let our customer support team know and they can either update the link, or remove the article. 

If you disagree with the content of a news article, or believe it to be incorrect - you'll need to contact the news provider directly. IMDb support staff are unable to make changes or take the articles down in these circumstances. 

A NewsDesk Provider sends IMDb their RSS 2.0 feed containing their site or publication's articles. IMDb publishes an excerpt of each article from the feeds.

IMDb removes the HTML, performs smart, relevant linking with our names and titles on IMDb, and publishes the headlines and the content of the excerpts on the linked IMDb pages.

The benefits of becoming a NewsDesk Provider are:

• Your article headlines may appear on the relevant people and title pages on IMDb
  
• Your articles may appear on the News page for that person, character, or title
  
• Your article may remain as a permalink on the site
  
• Your article may have a link back to your homepage or the relevant article
  
• Your logo may appear on the NewsDesk Provider page and permalink page
  
• An incredible opportunity to deep-link across large tracts of our site getting your articles in front of exactly the right audience

A IMDb NewsDesk Provider has:

1. Reviewed our NewsDesk Terms and Conditions and our NewsDesk Provider FAQs
   
2. Agreed to our NewsDesk Terms and Conditions
   
3. Submit an XML News feed to IMDb via the contact us form -- by submitting an XML feed, you have de facto agreed to our Terms and Conditions
   
4. Have had the XML feed reviewed and accepted by IMDb NewsDesk

Here's what you will need to do:

• Send us your XML feed with the feed elements listed in IMDb News RSS and Atom Feed Guide including: headlines (title), timestamp (pubDate), Provider name (channel), the article (description), image referral, and the referral link back to the full article (link)
  
• We ask that you include at least 150 words (can be longer) in the article. The headline does not count towards the 150 word count
  
• We are looking for several articles per day from Providers, but don't worry, we are also interested in more relevant, timely stories than just a flurry of pieces

The only catch, if you want to call it that, is that we retain the right to continue to publish the text from articles we've received even if our associations ends. We do this so that our users can still find the article excerpt they read, particularly if they've sent that link to a friend, bookmarked it, etc. We will continue to link to you from the article in the manner mentioned previously.

We will not publish stories with a word count lower than 60 words, and an association with a Provider who was providing less than the requested word count would be less than ideal and may be discontinued.

We discourage injecting ads into articles or spamming the article with links to other, non relevant pages in an article. Doing so may be grounds for discontinuing the NewsDesk assocation.

If the RSS feed changes for your news source, you'll need to contact a member of staff to correct this for you - this can be done via the contact form.
