IMDbPro Connections Beta (India)

Updated 26-June-2026

What's new

We are rebuilding IMDbPro Connections from an automatic, title-based system to a two-way approval system. This change will allow customers to connect with any IMDbPro customer, not just ones that they have shared titles with. We are kicking off this new experience with a limited-access beta, giving access to users on a rolling basis until we fully launch the new IMDbPro Connections.

This beta will run on web and mobile web only - this feature is not implemented on IMDbPro apps yet.

Even if you're in the approved beta, you will not see the new experience in the IMDbPro app. This does mean you may see different IMDbPro Connections data between IMDbPro web and apps during the beta period.

Beta Eligibility

We're launching Connections in select regions first, starting with India. During this initial phase, members in India can connect with each other — and once the full launch is complete, you'll be able to connect with members worldwide.

Only customers that are IMDbPro members and have claimed their IMDb Name pages can use the new Connections feature. Customers in the beta who've claimed their IMDb Name page can send and accept Connection requests with other eligible beta customers.

If an approved beta customers visits an IMDb Name page for someone who is not eligible for the beta, not yet in the beta, or has not claimed their IMDb Name page, they will not see the new Connect button, and instead they will see the regular IMDbPro Name page display.

Customers who are in the beta, and would like to opt-out should reach out to us via the Contact Us form.

How it looks

Your Own IMDbPro Name Page: A new display will appear in your IMDbPro Name page's header section indicating the new experience, showing the number of pending connection requests or prompting you grow your network. We are introducing an updated Connections tab, allowing customers to view and manage their network on IMDbPro. This tab includes sections for:

  • Privacy settings
  • Pending connection requests (with accept and reject options)
  • Current connections (with manage/edit options)
  • New connection recommendations (prioritized by mutual connections and shared titles)
  • Blocked connections (with unblock option)

Customers must have a claimed IMDb Name page to use the Connections feature. This is to ensure verification.

Other People's IMDbPro Name Pages: The header section of the IMDbPro Name page you're viewing will display a new primary Connect button if you're not connected with the claimed page owner. When sending a connection request, you can select from a predefined list of reasons you know the person, which will appear in the pending connection notification they receive. The Connect button displays differently based on the connection state. The number of mutual connections and shared titles will also display in the header section. If the IMDbPro Name page owner cannot be connected with, e.g. due to an unclaimed page, the privacy settings, "block" settings and the Connect button will not appear. The Connections tab on other people's IMDbPro Name pages will display shared titles and mutual connections using the new system, whereas the old shared titles system (pre-beta) will display "People you may know".

Inbox: When connection requests are sent/accepted, we will show a notification in the inbox. These notifications will only display for web until apps have implemented the new system.

Privacy Settings: You can control who can send you connection request through the privacy settings in the Connections tab. By default, we will disable the entire Connections feature for any user under the age of 18, verified through both their IMDb or Amazon account age, and any age listed on their claimed IMDbPro Name page. Any customers with a STARmeter between 1 - 50K (this range has been selected based on subjective judgement and can be easily configured), or who have ever reached that range historically, will by default have certain privacy settings turned on to respect the privacy of well-known individuals, unless they manually change their privacy setting. In this case, any Connections requester must have mutual connections, shared titles, same company, or client/rep relationship.

Block: We are introducing a blocking functionality that allows customers to block another user by navigating to their IMDbPro Name page and using the drop-down menu on the Connect button. Blocking prevents the blocked user from sending connection requests to the blocker, removes any existing connection between the two, and prevents both users from appearing in each other's Frequently Credited With or Connection recommendation features. In the future, we plan to introduce additional features (such as endorsements or messaging), by which time blocked users will not be able to interact with the blocker. Blocking does not hide IMDb Name page information from the blocked user, as we consider such data to be public. Blocking will also not remove Track functionality, which is one-way and non-interactive.
