Frequently asked questions

Who is the audience for the new pages?

Everyone, everywhere, all the time! IMDb is built for fans and contributors but we also recognize professionals may have different needs. If this is you, please check out IMDbPro!

What is new about this page?

It has a modern, clean presentation of information which works for casual users yet has improved controls and filters for expert users. We’ve restructured information making it easier to read, better access photos and videos, simplified access to a person’s career, and more.

Top page highlights are listed below:

  • A powerful credits section allowing for deeper insights. To name a few opportunities: (1) a simple overview of the most relevant information for each credit (2) Posters for easier visual identification (which are localized where available), (3) direct in-page access to sort by type of project with better support for music videos and audio-podcast types (along with future new types), (4) access to theatrical showtimes, streaming options, TV broadcast and DVD availability for each credit, (5) access to the trailer, genres, running time, plot outline and ratings certificate for each credit, and (6) the ability to add your rating to each credit.
  • Improved international support, adding to the pages already available in 8 languages.
  • Just like on Title pages, you can now easily add a person to a list or create a new list.
  • Instant access to all a person’s secondary page topics and career information searches with the "All topics" menu at the top of the page.
How do I easily see all credits at once?

By default, the Credits section is loaded with filters applied for jobs that the person is most known for. In order to see a person’s entire list of credits, de-select all of the applied filters. Filters can be de-selected by clicking the ones that are selected under the Credits section header. You can then open all the job sections by selecting Expand below.

Additionally, on the All Topics menu we added a link to the text view of credits which is now labeled All Credits for easier access.

How do I use the filter button?

In order to see different slices of a person’s credits, IMDb offers advanced filtering capabilities. In order to access these capabilities, you can click on the blue filter button directly below the Credits section header. This will bring up a dialog box where you will be able to:

  • Change how the credits are grouped: The “Sort by” section is defaulted to “Year.” It groups credits chronologically into upcoming and/or previous projects by year. You can select “Project type” to change the grouping by project types, such as Movie, TV show, etc. Additionally, If you don’t want to see Shorts or Documentaries in the “Movie” group, check the appropriate box to exclude them.
  • Filter down to only show credits from selected genres: The “Genres” section allows you to filter the display of credits to specific genres. For example, if you only want to see credits in the Comedy genre, simply select “Comedy” in the genre section. You can select multiple genres. If you make no selection, no filter will be applied and you will see all credits.
  • Quickly navigate to advanced searches: The “See also” section offers quick links to advanced searches of a person’s credits in order to see it ordered by user ratings, votes, or keywords.
Has "Quick Links" become "All topics?”

Yes! To see all related topics about a person, use the “All topics” button at the top of the page. These links will take you to pages with a deeper level of detail on the topic.

What can I do with the (i) (information) icon?

The “i” (information) icon within a credit allows you to see additional information about that Title. Selecting the icon will display a dialog box containing:

  • A plot description.
  • The IMDb rating and an option to give your rating.
  • The person’s specific credit.
  • Buttons to play a trailer, if available, as well as to quickly add the title to your watchlist.
  • Quick-links to all the watch options.
  • When applicable, a link with the number of episodes and year range to open a view of the person’s credits displayed by episode.
How do I see episode credits?

Select the blue link displaying the count of episode credits for a show. Additionally, you can select the (i) icon. A dialog box will appear that contains the same link.

Does the newly designed page work on all devices and browsers?

  • The newly designed page is mobile responsive to work on devices of all sizes and types (e.g. your laptop, tablet, and smartphone), and is compatible with most common operating systems and modern web browsers, such as Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Opera, and Edge.
  • However, please note that Internet Explorer (IE) is no longer supported. For maximum compatibility and performance, make sure your browser is up-to-date. If you’re having issues displaying IMDb on your browser, please visit our Help page: Why is IMDb displaying differently on my browser?

When will other pages switch to the new technology and new design?

Currently, home/where-to-watch/photos/videos/title are already modernized on IMDb. We plan to modernize subpages next and eventually the rest of the site.
