Use of Amazon Japan accounts (Amazon.co.jp accounts) on IMDb
Updated 13-October-2025
If your Amazon account is registered in Japan and linked to an existing IMDb or IMDbPro account, here is how to now sign in to IMDb. However, if you are in Japan and creating a new account on IMDb or IMDbPro, you will need to do so with an Amazon account not registered in Japan.
At a glance for customers in Japan
- Amazon accounts registered in Japan (Amazon.co.jp) can no longer use "Sign in with Amazon" or "Login with Amazon" to access existing IMDb accounts.
- Your IMDb data (e.g., ratings, Watchlist, reviews, lists, contributions, history, etc.) is not affected.
- Existing customers: Sign in using IMDb email and password. You can reset your IMDb password if you've forgotten it.
- New IMDb customers: To create a new IMDb account in Japan, you must have an existing account or create an Amazon.com account (Amazon site), not an Amazon.co.jp account.
Existing IMDb and IMDbPro customers in Japan — what to do now
If you previously signed in — via "Sign in with Amazon" — with your Amazon account registered in Japan, you must now use "Sign in with IMDb".
Steps
- On the IMDb sign-in page, select "Sign in with IMDb".
- Enter your IMDb email and password.
- Don't know your IMDb password? Select Password assistance, enter the email on your IMDb account, and set a new password.
Good to know:
- Your IMDb account ratings, reviews, lists, Watchlist, and history remain unaffected on your account.
- After you sign in with IMDb, you can keep using IMDb with your IMDb email and password.
New to IMDb or IMDbPro in Japan
To register a new account on IMDb, you can use an Amazon.com account (not an Amazon.co.jp account).
Steps:
- Go to Amazon.com and select Create account.
- Verify your email or phone number and finish setup.
- Return to IMDb and "Sign in with Amazon" (use your Amazon.com sign-in credentials).
Messages you may see in Japan
- "We cannot find an account with that email address": This displays during "Sign in with Amazon" when it previously did not. If you're in Japan, this likely means you have an Amazon account registered in Japan (for use on Amazon.co.jp). You can instead select "Sign in with IMDb" to sign in. If you forgot your password, you can select Password assistance to reset your IMDb password.
- "You already have an IMDb account": The email you're trying to create an account with already belongs to an IMDb account. Sign in with that email instead of creating an account for it.
IMDbPro members in Japan
Your IMDbPro membership and profile continue as usual. Sign in using the method above that applies to your account — IMDb email/password for an existing IMDb account, or an Amazon.com account if you are creating a new IMDb account. You can continue to update IMDbPro billing details where you manage your IMDbPro membership today.
